March 2023 – A fam trip of contrasts – jungle, city, sea
“Thailand is a country of contrasts—bustling cities, lush jungle, peaceful lakes and paradise shores.”
We flew into Bangkok, staying at The Siam, an oasis of calm on the banks of the river. The design was exquisite—equal parts art deco and Thai heritage. We cruised the klongs (canals) by boat, uncovering a quieter, more traditional side of the city.
We had drinks at Sky Bar at Lebua, 63 floors above the city. The same one from The Hangover—and just as spectacular in real life.
Into the Jungle
We headed to Khao Sok National Park and Elephant Hills. We stayed in luxury tents surrounded by rainforest, kayaked through flooded forests, explored caves and swam in in the glassy lake. It felt wonderfully raw and peaceful. Staying on the lake, miles from civilisation, nighttime air filled with the sound of wildlife, swimming in the clean, cold waters was like nothing I had every experienced.
From there, we travelled to Khao Lak, ending our journey at The Davesom, a chic beachfront escape. We inspected The Sarojin, a refined and romantic haven, and visited La Flora, which stood out for its friendly, stylish atmosphere without pretension.
“In just one trip, Thailand showed us five versions of itself—each one vivid, each one unforgettable.”
The hotels:

- Lebua at State Tower: Sky-high sparkle
- Elephant Hills: Jungle glam and gentle giants
