Caribbean – Each island, a different paradise

The Caribbean has offered me some wonderful travel memories, each island with its own rhythm and colour. I have been lucky enough to visit Mustique on two occasions—each time staying in the stunning Baliceaux House, a beautifully designed, fully staffed villa where barefoot luxury meets true seclusion. Days were spent cruising the island in golf carts, weaving between white-sand beaches and hidden coves, spotting the island’s iconic giant tortoises slowly crossing our paths. I celebrated birthdays with barefoot picnic lunches on Macaroni Beach and evenings at the Firefly, The Cotton House, and Basil’s Bar, where cocktails flowed and the island’s glamorous past whispered through the palms.

I’ve also spent time in Antigua, enjoying a sun-soaked, activity-filled Club Med holiday — a different pace, with sailing, water sports and the joy of meeting new friends.

Another gem was Tobago, where I stayed at Sandpebbles, a private home in the Coconut Grove Estate. With its easy rhythm and beachfront setting, it was the perfect base for a week with my best friends. We lived in swimsuits, shared slow dinners under the stars, body boarded the afternoon away in the most mental waves, drove around the island experiencing rainforest, waterfalls and ginger cake being sold at the side of the road — the kind of simple luxury that lingers in the memory.

Each island brought a different version of paradise — from the polished allure of private villas to the easygoing charm of beachside living with friends. The Caribbean is exactly what it promises to be: sandy beaches, easy vibes, jerk chicken and birdsong.
